About this site
This is an unofficial, non-commercial preservation project. It runs the original Microsoft Encarta Premium 2009 (its own pages, scripts, search engine and content) in a modern browser, so the encyclopedia can still be used after its discontinuation in 2009. There are no ads, accounts or payments.
This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Microsoft Corporation.
Copyright
Microsoft, Encarta and the Encarta logo are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. The encyclopedia's articles, media, interface artwork and software are © 1993–2008 Microsoft Corporation and its licensors (credited on each item). They are shown here as originally published, for reference and preservation.
The browser compatibility code written for this site is separate from Encarta's content. Third-party components (Ruffle Flash player, an XSLT library) are used under their own open-source licences.
DMCA / copyright takedown requests
If you are a copyright owner, or authorised to act for one, and believe material on this site infringes your rights, please email [email protected] with:
- your name, organisation (if any) and contact details;
- the work you believe is infringed;
- the address (URL) of each page or file on this site concerned;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner;
- your physical or electronic signature.
Valid requests are acted on promptly, and the material concerned is removed or disabled.
Privacy
- No accounts, no advertising, and no tracking or analytics scripts.
- The site stores a few settings in your own browser (for example the zoom level); they never leave your device.
- The server keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested) to keep the service running and secure. Search words are not logged.
- Traffic passes through Cloudflare, which provides the connection security and caching.
No warranty
The encyclopedia is provided as it was published in 2008, without any warranty. Some information is out of date; please do not rely on it for medical, legal or other professional advice.
